Is Phiten Just A Fad?

Originally from Japan, Phiten was brought to the Philippines by a local distribution company called SEEMI back in 2007.

At first, yes, I thought it was just a passing fad. They looked like fashionable plactic accessories packaged in an expensive imported brand; fashionable nonetheless. :)
Phiten Products
Three years later, Phiten is still very much in the  Philippine market and has expanded since then from the initial 5 stores to 41 retail outlets today. It was then mainly sold in sports shops and most badminton courts during the badminton sports frenzy of the same years. It is only early this year when Phiten started reatailing independently inside popular malls.

I recently had the opportunity to take a look at the products more deeply and understand it better. Focusing on lifestyle sports, health and wellness products, Phiten General Manager Mr. Ronaldo Colmenar shared that Phiten (SEEMI) actually assigns trained product specialists on each outlet to address customer concerns and give appropriate demonstrations when necessary.

He also expounded on the technology behind Phiten and what makes it work. He explains that this is possible through Phild Process which is the method of incoroporating nana-particles of Titanium, Gold, and Silver in all the materials used for Phiten products .Body heat in the affected areas rise after exposure or application which relaxes muscles and improve blood circulation.

And to get straight to the point, Colmenar specified Phiten benefits as the following:
  • Helps relieve pain like shoulder stiffness, backpain, muscle pain, improves blood circulation.
  • Helps prevent fatigue and injury by relaxing the muscles and thereby gaining some degree of flexibility.
  • Helps enhance physical abilities like muscle strength and flexibility.

Moreover, they  have a wide range of products aside from the popular bracelets, bands, and necklaces - they have back support pads, tiatanium tapes that works similar to a salonpa, water for external application and even apparel shirts!

From among these uncommon products, I am most interested with the shoe insoles. I used to wear insoles because I walk a lot from home to my work office or school. My curiosity is piqued how much it could make my walking better or more comfortable. :)

Price range vary from the most affordable Rakuwa Nexklace starting at P750 upto the X100 plug model black which is around P13000++.

So is Phiten a fad?

I believe that fads, albeit with awesome marketing strategies, can not last for more than two years and still expand. Consumers will eventually realize in time that what they bought was not able to fulfill its intended promises. This is the phase when a fad will generally slow down in sales and fade into oblivion.

So with Phiten that is in operation for more than three years now and still expanding, a statement is being made here. But this is simply my distant conclusion from an observer's point of view.

I'd like you to join me as I will start to use this bracelet 3-Line 55mm model (foreground of 2nd photo above) and realize firsthand the effectiveness of a Phiten product on the personal level. Stay tuned for my updates on my experience in using Phiten. let's give it a few weeks or so :)
